Marvel Two-In-One #12 - Jack Kirby cover
Marvel Two-in-One #12, 1975 - Far from his best, Jack Kirby's Thing and Iron Man cover appears hurriedly drawn and sloppily composed. Already crowded with too many elements, the additional text and dialogue contribute to an overall chaotic image. Sadly, too many of Kirby's bronze age Marvel covers fall below expectations. Other artists in this issue include Ron Wilson and Vince Colletta. This is number 1 of 4 Marvel Two-in-One issues with Kirby art and/or covers. Iron Man has a passing resemblance to Doctor Doom.
I would note that Kirby prepared most of these over other artists designs, usually either Romita, Ed Hannigan or Dave Cockrum. I believe Kirby designed the covers he edited, though.
This is actually one of the simpler covers, with only three figures, and I like it more than you, although it is marred (as so many others of this period are) by word baloons.
