Ben-Hur / Four Color Comics #1052 - Russ Manning art

Ben-Hur / Four Color Comics #1052, 1959 - Adapting the MGM movie of the same name, Russ Manning opens the story with a spacious full page splash. The title typography mimics the grandeur of the film's dimensional logo. Interestingly, Manning doesn't attempt to render the likeness of lead actor Charlton Heston, but opts for his own interpretation of the character. Throughout the pages, the artist faithfully captures the beauty, splendor and violence of ancient Rome. The climactic chariot race scene (pages 27-30) is an abridged version of the film but no less exciting. This is number 1 of 1 Ben Hur issues with Manning art and/or covers.
