Heroes Inc. (#1) - Steve Ditko / Wally Wood art, Wood art & cover

Heroes Inc. presents Cannon (#1), 1969 - Sold at US military bases in the late 1960s, these characters were designed to appeal to a young adult male audience. Featuring war, science fiction and fantasy, the tales are populated with busty women and mild nudity. Steve Ditko and Wally Wood team up for the main story, featuring the violently heroic Cannon. Explosive action fills nearly every page of this seamless collaboration. Two additional tales by Wood (one assisted by Ralph Reese) round out the book, both reminiscent of his early work for EC's Mad a decade earlier. This is number 1 of 2 Heroes Inc. issues with Wood art and/or covers and number 1 of 2 Heroes Inc. issues with Ditko art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Ditko, Wood or Heroes Inc. issues. Interestingly, this comicbook turned up on the shelves of my local comics shop a couple or so years back. It sold at the standard price, so I can only assume a few bundles of it were found in a warehouse somewhere. I bought a couple of copies of it.
