Captain America #100 - Jack Kirby art & cover

Captain America #100, 1968 - After his first silver age appearance in Avengers #4, the hero shared the Tales of Suspense title with Iron Man before graduating into his own series. The story continues from Tales of Suspense with Kirby logically continuing the art chores. The cover is typically exciting by Kirby standards, centering around the hero while his comrades appear in the background. He is strangely in mid-leap and has a vacuous look on his face. The opening pages retell Cap's origin and his reawakening in the present day. The action-packed story, adeptly inked by Syd Shores, is chock full of explosive panels and includes two full page splashes. The Black Panther also makes a guest appearance. It is only fitting that Jack Kirby, Captain America's creator, would be the same artist that would revive him in the silver age twenty years later. This is number 1 of 34 Captain America issues with Kirby art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Kirby or Captain America issues.
